Aquarium Area

In the Aquarium Area one finds the Genoa Aquarium, the Grande Nave Blu (Large Blue Ship), the commercial gallery Atlantide (Atlantis), the Biosphere and the Isola delle Chiatte (Island of Pontoons).

The Genoa Aquarium, with a structure designed by Renzo Piano and interiors by Peter Chermayeff, is one of the richest in the world for the animal species housed. The original structure has been enlarged since 1998 with a further 2,500 m2 of exhibition space within the Nave Blu, famous for its Mediterranean cliffs, coral reefs and the reconstruction of the Madagascar rainforest.

On the ground floor the Galleria Commerciale Atlantide has 10 shops.

The Biosphere, designed by Renzo Piano and created under the scope of the urban restyling of the area in 2001, is a structure suspended over the sea, made of steel and glass. Inside there is a very delicate ecosystem that houses plants and animals from the rainforest.

At the end of the Aquarium wharf there is the Isola delle Chiatte (Island of Pontoons), named after the musician Luciano Berio. This is an extraordinary floating panoramic point in the centre of the old port basin, equipped with benches and attractively lit at night
