Porta Siberia: the historic Mediterranean gateway.

The ancient gates of the city.

Porta Siberia, designed by the architect Galezzo Alessi, is the only gate amongst those built in Genoa in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries still standing.

The name “Siberia” is due to a mispronunciation of the word “Cibaria” used because by sea through this passage food stuffs entered the city or were shipped to other Mediterranean ports.

Porta Siberia is an historical monument fully functional today placed in the heart of the porto antico, an imposing and fascinating building that captures the attention of visitors.

Thanks to Renzo Piano’s project has been developed an important recovery work, through the rehabilitation of the interior spaces and the preparation of necessary structures to through the rehabilitation of the interior spaces and the preparation of necessary structures to host personal and collective exhibitions, both artistic and photographic.

An historical and original location, Porta Siberia has an area of over 500 square meters with large ceilings and a formidable window that floods it with natural light, as well as different spaces (internal and external) that lend themselves to various uses and a vast panoramic terrace above all to be discovered.
